Anharmonicity  (2011)

A quintet consisting of a string quartet and trumpet. Written for a competition organised by Aberdeen University. A performance piece: the string players involved in the performance were not impressed when told that a trumpet would make up the quintet.  They felt strongly that a trumpet was an inappropriate instrument to accompany string instruments because of their tonal qualities.  As they had been hired in advance, they had no choice in the matter.  So the performance duly went ahead.  As the score shows, there was trouble from the start, and it became a battle of wills, rushing towards an inevitable conflagration. This composition received a letter of commendation from Aberdeen University. Duration: 6’ 48””. Availability: score and Sibelius generated CD
