Jennifer O’Connor’s interest in composition began at the University of California in Berkeley USA, when she undertook informal studies there with the eminent American composer Andrew Imbrie whose kindness and encouragement was greatly valued.  Jennifer gains inspiration from poetry, from her imagination, when human endeavour is sometimes overwhelmed by situations; or by the telling a story of occasions less than perfect.  She loves to see the humour in everyday life and finds music the perfect vehicle for the story telling, so really her music is mostly about telling stories in sound. Her compositions include works for piano; chamber orchestra; string quartet; string quartet, flute and clarinet; cello and clarinet; string trio (piano, clarinet and flute); clarinet and koto; percussion; and wind instrument combinations, including saxophone quartet.
